Programs

When I started at the Platteville Public Library in 2015, programming was not a focus of my position. Since then, I have planned many intergenerational and adult programs, both by myself and with other librarians. My favorite programs have been those that allow me to bring new people together and facilitate conversations.

This is the program I am most proud of this year. I collaborated with two professors from the UW-Plattevile English Dept. to help me plan the schedule. I did all my own graphic design and publicity, and I moderated the author forum. Over 15 community members attended, which for a first-time program on a Saturday felt like a huge success! In library school, my final project for Gaming In Libraries was a sample plan that a library could use to build a starter collection of board games based on skill level, play time, and number of players. This plan came in handy in 2015 when my director discovered extra programming funds that needed to be spent by Dec. 31! I was able to choose games with confidence and started a monthly board game program for teens and adults.

Now, I'm collaborating with a local board game store called Deals 'n Dragons to offer drop-in board game afternoons every other Saturday. We provide the space, and the DnD staff bring new games for people to try out.

Hygge, the Danish concept of coziness, was the lifestyle trend of 2017! We turned the programming room into a cozy hideaway and shared books and ideas to stave off the winter blues.

As the outreach librarian, I regularly represent the library at community events. This is the library's booth at the UW-P faculty and resident life fair.

In October 2016 I hosted a special Book to Art Club to celebrate the movie adaptation of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. We used vintage photographs from the UW-Platteville archive to create spooky photo collage lanterns. I used these lanterns in Poe-themed display I curated for our local history museum.
